Master Collection (MC) Type 2
The Master Collection (MC) represents the highest level of engineering precision, material quality, and finishing within the Rocnel product line. While the overall design language shares similarities with the Sailor models, the MC series is fundamentally different in terms of manufacturing philosophy, machining complexity, and craftsmanship.
Standard Sailor models are produced using high-precision CNC machining. The MC collection, however, elevates this process significantly. Components are manufactured on ultra-precision CNC machines using extended multi-stage CAD-CAM machining programs, allowing for more complex operations and tighter dimensional tolerances.
For instance, a standard Sailor component typically requires approximately 14 cutting tools during machining. In contrast, MC components require nearly 30 different cutting tools and machining stages, enabling superior geometric precision, improved structural integrity, and a higher level of surface refinement.
The MC production process also incorporates:
• Carefully selected premium raw materials,
• Dedicated custom fixturing systems,
• Multiple advanced surface refinement techniques,
• And additional hand-finishing performed by experienced craftsmen.
The collection is manufactured in a separate workshop environment, distinct from the standard production line. Each component is produced by machinists and craftsmen who specialize in these advanced finishing processes. The goal is not simply to manufacture a product, but to create a piece that represents the highest level of mechanical precision and craftsmanship within the industry.
This philosophy mirrors the segmentation found in the watch industry between Seiko and Grand Seiko. While the design language may share a common heritage, the manufacturing process and finishing standards elevate the product into an entirely different category.
The Master Craftsman Collection is produced in strictly limited numbers. Every razor is individually marked with a unique serial number.
This limited production approach ensures that each piece is not only a precision instrument but also a collectible example of mechanical craftsmanship.
The MC series represents the pinnacle of Rocnel engineering and craftsmanship.
Materials
This product is manufactured from solid AISI 316L marine-grade stainless steel.
AISI stands for the American Iron and Steel Institute, the organization that established the internationally recognized classification system used to identify and standardize steel alloys. Within this system, 316L refers to a premium stainless steel grade known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, chemical stability, and long-term mechanical reliability.
The steel used in this product is high-purity, Italian-origin solid 316L stainless steel. Its alloy composition is carefully balanced to meet demanding engineering standards.
Because of these properties, 316L stainless steel is widely used around the world in industries that demand extreme reliability and corrosion resistance. These include surgical instruments, medical devices, marine hardware, precision engineering components, and chemical processing equipment. In Türkiye, steel of this quality is typically imported for medical device manufacturing and other high-precision engineering sectors.
Certain components of this product are manufactured using direct heat-treated parts. Raw steel undergoes specialized heat treatment processes to optimize its mechanical performance. These processes refine the material’s microstructure, increasing hardness, wear resistance, and mechanical strength. The exact heat treatment procedures applied in our production are considered proprietary manufacturing know-how.
The reason this alloy is classified as marine-grade is its ability to withstand extremely corrosive environments such as sea water and oceanic conditions, where high levels of salt, moisture, and chloride ions typically cause rapid material degradation. 316L stainless steel maintains its structural integrity and surface quality even under such demanding conditions.
The adjustment ring of the product may optionally incorporate highly polished brass. This choice is not merely cosmetic but also serves a functional engineering purpose. During shaving, conditions such as dense shaving lather, steam, moisture, and varying lighting environments can sometimes reduce the visibility of the adjustment dial. The reflective, polished brass surface enhances light contrast, allowing the adjustment markings and level transitions to remain clearly visible even under challenging conditions. This ensures precise and intuitive control of the mechanism during use.
Manufacturing Process
Every component of this product is manufactured from solid stainless steel using high-precision 5-axis CNC machining centers. Rather than relying on casting or metal injection molding methods, each part is fully machined from solid bar stock, ensuring superior dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and long-term durability.
Five-axis CNC machining allows the cutting tools to approach the workpiece from multiple angles within a single setup. This technology enables the production of extremely complex geometries with micron-level tolerances, while maintaining exceptional alignment between critical mechanical surfaces. As a result, the moving parts of the mechanism operate with remarkable precision, balance, and consistency.
For surface finishing, we employ a lapping process, a technique widely used by high-end luxury watch manufacturers when finishing watch cases and bracelets. Unlike conventional polishing methods that can round edges or alter the geometry of a component, lapping is a controlled surface refinement process that removes microscopic irregularities while preserving the original dimensional geometry of the part. This results in a surface that reflects light with remarkable clarity and depth, producing a finish that is both visually striking and mechanically precise.
The unique surface character of this product is a direct result of this process. Under light, the material exhibits a refined and balanced reflection profile, a quality that is difficult to achieve with traditional polishing techniques.
To achieve this level of precision, we utilize specially developed high-accuracy fixtures and custom machining tools designed exclusively for our production process. These fixtures ensure absolute stability and repeatability during machining, allowing every component to be produced with consistent alignment and tight dimensional tolerances.
The machining strategies and CAD-CAM manufacturing programs used in production represent the culmination of nearly a decade of continuous research and development. Together with our custom fixtures and tooling systems, these programs form part of our proprietary manufacturing know-how and remain strictly internal to our workshop.
One of the defining characteristics that makes the MC Series unique is precisely this highly specialized production methodology.
The adjustable version of this model was first introduced in 2014. Since then, the design and manufacturing process have been continuously refined and improved year after year. Each new iteration reflects incremental advancements in mechanical precision, surface finishing techniques, and overall engineering quality.
The name MC is derived from the initials of the Master Collection program. Unlike conventional mass-produced products, the MC Series is not manufactured in large production batches. Instead, each piece is individually built and assembled, ensuring meticulous attention to detail throughout the entire manufacturing process.
Functionality of the Razor
The full technical designation of this model is a double-edge adjustable safety razor designed for traditional wet shaving.
The primary motivation behind the development of this model was to give the user controlled flexibility over the blade exposure and cutting geometry, which are fixed in conventional non-adjustable safety razors. This system allows the user to fine-tune the razor’s behavior according to beard type, beard density, shaving area, and personal shaving technique.
Located on the handle is an adjustment ring marked with a reference dot and numbered settings from 1 to 5.
The dot marking is not a shaving setting. Instead, it serves as a reference indicator used to measure the thickness of the installed blade and calibrate the mechanism. Razor blades from different manufacturers may vary slightly in thickness at the micron level. For this reason, the dot marking on the adjustment ring may show a slight (+/-) offset relative to the fixed anchor reference mark engraved on the handle.
This calibration feature allows the user to:
• Easily evaluate different blade brands
• Identify the most suitable configuration for their skin and beard type
• Optimize their shaving experience with greater precision
The “1” setting represents the initial shaving level, where blade exposure is minimal. At this setting, the razor delivers the mildest blade feel and the lowest level of skin irritation, making it particularly suitable for users who are new to traditional wet shaving.
However, the adjustment system is not limited to the five numbered settings. The user may position the dial anywhere between two numbers, such as between 1 and 2 or between any other settings. In other words, the mechanism operates with continuous 360-degree adjustment capability, allowing for highly precise control.
This design distinguishes the MC model from many comparable razors on the market. In many adjustable razors, users can only select fixed indexed settings displayed on the dial. In the MC model, however, intermediate settings are entirely at the discretion of the user, allowing a much finer level of customization.
By first referencing the dot calibration mark, users can experiment with different blade types and determine how various blades interact with both the primary settings and intermediate positions. This approach enables the user to program their shaving experience with professional-level precision.
Shaving performance is influenced by a number of variables, including:
• Beard thickness
• Beard density
• Beard length
• The specific area of the face being shaved
• The presence of ingrown hairs
• Pre-shave preparation
• Blade quality
• The experience and technique of the user
Because of these variables, it is not always possible to define shaving performance strictly by numerical settings alone. Over time, users naturally develop a preferred configuration that matches their personal shaving routine. Additionally, the global wet shaving community frequently shares experiences and recommendations through forums, social media, and enthusiast communities, which many users find valuable as a reference.
The razor head mechanism incorporates two specially manufactured springs, each delivering 830 grams of thrust force. The use of dual springs ensures optimal balance and stability within the adjustment mechanism during shaving.
All mechanical components inside the head assembly operate with a level of precision comparable to a fine mechanical watch movement. This precision ensures that adjustments made through the dial are transferred directly and accurately to the blade position, maintaining mechanical consistency throughout the shaving process.
The overall weight distribution and balance of the razor have been carefully engineered to achieve optimal ergonomics. This allows the razor to deliver excellent control, even pressure distribution, and a highly stable shaving experience in the user’s hand.
The handle features a diamond knurled grip pattern, widely recognized as one of the most effective surface textures for maintaining a secure hold in wet environments. This design ensures confident handling even when the razor is used with water, soap, or shaving lather.
Since 2015, feedback from users around the world has been continuously collected and analyzed through a centralized evaluation platform within our workshop. Insights gathered from this global user community are regularly integrated into the design and refinement of the product.
As a result, this model represents the culmination of precision engineering, user-driven design evolution, and refined mechanical craftsmanship.
For experienced users seeking a highly customizable shaving instrument, the MC model can confidently be described as one of the most advanced adjustable safety razors designed for professional-level shaving comfort.
Cleaning
Cleaning this model is simple and straightforward. The razor can be cleaned using any liquid soap commonly used for cleaning shaving tools and then rinsed thoroughly with water. It is not recommended to store the product with a blade installed for extended periods.
A thorough cleaning after every shave is not necessary. After shaving, simply rinse the razor with water and store it in the stand compartment.
For a more detailed cleaning, the top cap and the handle component located at the bottom section can be removed, allowing all parts of the razor to be cleaned easily.
The internal mechanism has been engineered with precise tolerances and does not require lubrication.
If the product needs to be used by another person or transferred to a new owner, it should first undergo a basic cleaning to remove hair and residue. Afterward, it should be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, followed by proper sterilization in an autoclave.

Blade Installation
Installing a blade in this model is simple and quick. The mechanism has been precisely engineered to ensure that the blade is positioned correctly and securely during every installation.
Step 1
Locate the thicker section directly below the adjustment dial on the handle. Turn this section counterclockwise. This action will release the top cap from the main body of the razor.
Step 2
On the underside of the top cap, you will find precision-machined alignment notches designed to position the blade accurately. Hold the blade by its short, non-sharp edges and place it onto these alignment points.
Step 3
Once the blade is positioned, place the top cap back onto the main body, aligning it with the guide pins.
Step 4
Finally, rotate the lower section of the handle clockwise to close the mechanism. The blade will now be securely locked in place.
Once this process is complete, the razor is ready for use. With a little practice, blade installation can typically be completed in approximately 7–8 seconds.
The internal mechanism is designed to ensure that the blade aligns correctly every time, providing a balanced, controlled, and consistent shaving experience.
Top Cap Orientation
The top cap can be installed in two different orientations. While both orientations are mechanically functional, reversing the top cap may change the reference direction of the adjustment indicator on the dial.
To prevent confusion during assembly, all laser markings on the razor have been intentionally designed to face the same direction. These markings provide a clear visual reference for correct orientation.
For proper alignment, simply ensure that the markings on the top cap are positioned in the same direction as the markings on the main body of the razor.
This design detail ensures that the adjustment indicator remains correctly aligned during use.
Safety Note:
When installing a blade, avoid touching the sharp cutting edges. Always handle the blade by its short, non-sharp sides to ensure safe handling.
Disassembly and Reassembly
This model incorporates a precision mechanical system composed of multiple components. For basic cleaning and routine maintenance, the razor can be partially disassembled and reassembled by the user. The process is simple and requires no special tools.
First, remove the top cap from the razor.
Next, locate the thicker section directly beneath the adjustment dial on the handle. Gently pull this section straight outward to release it from the internal locking mechanism.
When reinstalling this component, no threading or tightening is required. Simply place the part back into position. The locking mechanism will automatically secure it in place. You will hear a subtle “click” indicating that the mechanism has properly engaged.
This level of disassembly is sufficient for normal cleaning and routine maintenance.
Disassembling the internal mechanism beyond this point is not recommended. The internal components are manufactured with high-precision tolerances, and further disassembly requires mechanical experience and technical knowledge to ensure correct reassembly.
In addition, the razor has been designed so that the internal mechanism does not require user servicing for cleaning purposes. Under normal usage conditions, opening this section is unnecessary.
For this reason, the razor is intended to be disassembled by the user only to the extent described above.
Performing the disassembly and reassembly steps outlined here will not harm the razor or affect the reliability of the mechanism.
The internal mechanism has been engineered to operate reliably without requiring user intervention during normal use, ensuring long-term durability and consistent performance.
Product Heritage
The origins of this model trace back to 2014, when the initial design and engineering development began. After an extended period of prototyping, testing, and refinement, the razor officially entered production in 2015.
The model was first introduced to the market through a collaboration between Barbaros and Rocnel (B&R). Beginning in 2016, production continued exclusively under the Rocnel brand.
Adjustable safety razors have long held a respected place in the world of traditional wet shaving. Over the years, many manufacturers have successfully produced adjustable models using various casting methods and simpler metal alloys. These razors became widely appreciated by users for their ability to offer multiple shaving settings and personalized control.
However, producing an adjustable razor machined from solid stainless steel using precision CNC manufacturing presented a very different level of technical challenge. The complexity of the mechanism, combined with the difficulty of machining hardened steel with extremely tight tolerances, made such an approach uncommon within the industry for many years.
At Rocnel, our goal was to rethink the adjustable razor from an engineering perspective — creating a version that would offer greater durability, higher precision, and long-term mechanical reliability by machining the entire system from solid stainless steel.
After extensive engineering development, numerous prototypes, and continuous refinement of the manufacturing process, this objective was successfully realized. The result was the introduction of an adjustable safety razor machined from solid stainless steel, developed and produced within Rocnel.
When the model was first introduced, the development was shared with the wet shaving community through social media platforms. The response from enthusiasts and collectors around the world was immediate and enthusiastic, recognizing the technical ambition behind the project.
Since its original release, the model has continued to evolve. Each production year introduced further improvements in machining techniques, surface finishing, materials, and mechanical refinement. Over time, the razor developed into more than a single product — it became an engineering platform that continued to mature with each new generation.
This philosophy reflects Rocnel’s broader approach to manufacturing: every iteration builds upon the experience and knowledge gained from the previous one.
In 2021, the product line evolved further with the introduction of a distinct segmentation. The Sailor model was positioned as the primary production line, while the MC (Master Collection ) was introduced as a higher-tier series, emphasizing advanced finishing techniques, more complex manufacturing processes, and limited production.
Today, after years of continuous refinement, this model represents a mature expression of Rocnel’s design philosophy — combining mechanical precision, durable materials, and carefully developed craftsmanship into a razor that has earned its place within the modern wet shaving world.
